Photography & Glass

Last week I teamed up with my friend Sandra for a photography portrait session where all the photos involved glass. This is a project I had been wanting to try for awhile, but I wanted to find the right person to model, someone who could convey different moods and capture the viewers attention. Sandra is beautiful and a wonderful singer, one who connects easily with the music and audience and so I knew she’d be perfect. Besides, she is easy-going and I thought she would be pretty patient with me and the whole process of staging the shots!

I love evocative photographs that stir the imagination. In the first photo, Sandra is gazing at the clouds in pensive thought and those same clouds are reflected in the window of the car, giving the whole photo a dreamy effect. In the next photo, below, the viewer becomes an active part of the story by her direct look at the camera.

After we experimented with many shots through glass to achieve different effects, I wanted to join her on the other side of the window. With streaming light coming in and highlighting her from behind, I shot this more traditional portrait. As well as the pose and lighting, I like the way the little splashes of vivid color and the complementary colors play, and the texture of the coat.

  1. I get what you say when you tell us she knows how to connect. You have captured this very well in the second photo. The first photo is probably my favourite of these three. So wonderfully done!

    Have a great week!

    Kind regards,
    Tieme
