Photographing men’s fashion has to be approached a little differently than a women’s fashion shoot. While the basic plan of getting interesting and clear pictures is the same, consideration is made for more masculine settings, poses, and photo treatments. Dillan Moore, an Atlanta based model, runs a popular style blog called Moore Than Style and needed some fresh shots for three new outfits.
In the above photo, Dillan is modeling clothes from American Eagle Outfitters, and because of the casual look we photographed at a mountain location, with more active poses rather than stationary poses.
This dapper and inspired look required a more formal backdrop, so we shot on the lawn that was reminiscent of a southern mansion estate. Here the posing is a more static menswear style of pose, to match Dillan’s more dignified, but fun, appearance.
The same can be said for this London influenced outfit. To convey a proper British feel, we again used the stately facade of the building as a backdrop. I wanted the grain of the granite to accentuate the texture of his tweed, and I made careful adjustments in the editing process to really capture the “heaviness” of both the stone and wool. This was shot after clouds moved in which also contributed to the British-ness of image.
I enjoyed working with Dillan who arrived ready to work and who seems to have a lot going for him. Check in to his blog as he will soon be posting more of our men’s fashion photos.
